23 March 2017

Every year, Trends publishes a list of the fastest growing companies in the country, the Trends Gazellen. Because it finished first in its category (large companies) Materialise received the title of Flemish Ambassador.

3D Printing is evolving at an incredible speed. Trends include new materials, better, faster and cheaper printers, new applications etc. "Especially new applications are essential. Growth won't be attained by using bigger or faster printers, but by using the technology in new applications", Peter Leys, Peter Leys Executive Chairman of the Board at Materialise mentions. "We're already active in healthcare, consumer goods and aviation industry, but the potential remains immense. Day in, day out, world-leaders from all kinds of sectors rely on us."

In the process, Materialise grew its workforce to about 1,400 employees, of which 550 are active in Belgium. Its share is listed on Nasdaq since 2014, the funds gained from the stock market listing must allow more growth for Materialise. "Our ambition is to make Materialise big and to keep on innovating. We manage this company from a built to last perspective, not with that of a quick exit for our shareholders."

The ranking is based on growth. The faster a company grows, the higher it ranks. Growth in this case means revenue, cashflow and workforce over a period of five years.
