Within this international research project, the Leuven partner takes responsibility for the development of a thesaurus and the creation of a MOOC for online education on this theme. The laboratory of Measure, Model, Manage Bio-Responses (M3-BIORES) is a world-leading research laboratory focussing on real-time monitoring and management of animal and human health and welfare. The Light and Lighting Laboratory of KU Leuven, department ESAT, has an excellent reputation within the lighting sector. The KU Leuven Noise and Vibration Research Group is headed by Prof. Wim Desmet (www.kuleuven.be/wieiswie/en/person/00011973) and currently counts 8 permanent staff members, 16 senior post-doc and 55 PhD researchers. Postdoc position on protein translation defects in cancer

The laboratory for Disease Mechanisms in Cancer (department of Oncology, KU Leuven) is looking for a motivated postdoctoral researcher. Our team recently described mutations in ribosomal proteins in cancer. We study the molecular mechanisms by which these defects promote malignant transformation, with the aim to develop therapies that can interfere with ribosomal protein associated malignancy.

PhD position: DECODING BRAIN SIGNALS IN RESPONSE TO SOUND: EEG SIGNAL PROCESSING AND DEEP LEARNING

When a person listens to sound, various parts of the auditory system are activated, including the brain. We can then measure the brain waves using EEG, decode them and draw conclusions about the auditory system.
The goal of this project is to build better brain wave decoders and use them for diagnostics of the auditory system and to include them in novel neuro-steered hearing aids.
The work mostly involves EEG signal processing, using both classical signal processing and state-of-the art artificial intelligence techniques such as deep learning. Besides signal processing, the work also encompasses experimental design, data collection, and hypothesis-driven neuroscience research.
