imec and KU Leuven want to help Belgian teachers to provide distance learning through educational technology
KU Leuven offers digital alternatives to classical education. The university is happy to make its expertise available to primary and secondary schools where lessons are temporarily suspended. That is why KU Leuven and imec are jointly launching www.onderwijsgaatviraal.be.
Now that lessons are suspended in all primary and secondary schools due to the corona crisis, the demand for feasible and high-quality digital alternatives is particularly high. On the website www.onderwijsgaatviraal.be teachers can find a dynamic overview of (temporarily) freely available e-learning tools. Pupils and their parents can also use this website themselves.
The webpage offers a simple overview of freely available tools, divided per learning domain. For each tool you get an overview with essential information (subject, short description, type of exercises ...) that allows you to quickly decide whether the tool is usable in the desired situation.
Piet Desmet, Vice Rector in charge of educational technology: "With the launch of this website we want to offer the many teachers, pupils and their parents the necessary support. Digital education offers numerous possibilities to deal with this unexpected situation in a qualitative way".
The university and imec also set up a helpline for teachers. In the coming weeks, a team of educational experts from KU Leuven/imec will answer questions from teachers about the use of these e-learning tools.
The website will be updated daily as long as the corona measures are in place.
