CommScope site becomes new innovation hub: "Quality space for innovative spin-offs, start-ups, growth companies and international companies."
The 15.7-hectare site will be developed into an industrial innovation hub for the high-tech sector, and should provide an additional anchor point in the city for innovative companies.
After the impactful operations and warehouse consolidation, the site in Kessel-Lo will undergo a significant transition. Together with key players of the Leuven ecosystem (City of Leuven, KU Leuven, PMV) the location will be repurposed, and CommScope Kessel-Lo will take the next step in becoming part of an industrial innovation hub for the high-tech sector, anchoring companies with innovation potential in the Leuven area.
"Leuven is giving local companies and the knowledge-driven economy necessary space with this site," said Mayor Mohamed Ridouani (Vooruit). "This creates quality jobs for all levels of education and social innovations that benefit everyone. In addition, the site offers prospects for improving the city's accessibility in the longer term and that of the Scheuts site in the shorter term." Paul Van Dun, general manager of KU Leuven Research & Development adds: "The site becomes a place where knowledge-intensive companies, such as our own spin-offs, interact with each other, which can turbocharge new ideas and innovative entrepreneurship."
CommScope will remain on site to concentrate on commercial and innovation activities, taking full advantage of the cross-pollination between the various innovators and creating the perfect setting to continue to shape the future of communication networks worldwide.
