Belgium's largest surgical center renovated

22 February 2017

After six years, UZ Leuven's surgical center and post-anaesthesia care facility has been completely modernised. The surgical center is the biggest in Belgium and among the biggest in Europe, counting 33 operating rooms and a surface of 9 713 m².

The surgical center required an expansion in order to facilitate the integration of surgical activities done by other campuses. After completion, the surgical center complies with even the most strict standards and is equipped with the latest high-tech hardware to execute even the most complex operational procedures.

Prof. dr. Paul De Leyn, head of thoracic surgery and chairman of the OKa-board at UZ Leuven: "Our new operating rooms create tranquility, especially during operational procedures which require a lot of time, technology, equipment and teams."

Now that the surgical center has been completed, the next challenge will lie in the optimisation of the operating room's usage, limiting loss of time and increasing efficiency.
