13 March 2019

This year's edition of the Artefact Exhibition and Festival managed to seduce more than 12,000 enthusiasts to come to STUK - House for Dance, Image and Sound in Leuven. The core subject was 'migration'. The organisation set a new record of giving more than 270 free tours during three weeks.

Artefact is an exhibition and festival on the crossroads of contemporary visual arts, current events and societal challenges. Artefact presents contemporary art practices that engage with challenging complex topics and urgent themes, in a poetic, critical and experiential way.

Artefact 2019: Parallel Crossings focused on the theme of movement as a dynamic force inherent in nature, people and things alike. An exhibition featuring existing and new works by 15 artists and collectives revealed untold stories and shed intriguing perspectives on this familiar, yet complex topic. The sound program zoomed in on the musician as a travelling artist in an ever more connected world. A selection of lectures, workshops, film and performance, offered the possibility to continue the exploration.

More than 270 free tours in 5 international languages (Dutch, English, Italian, Swedish and Arabic) were given.

Mark your calendars for the 2020 edition! Scheduled to open on February 13, Artefact 2020 will dig deeper into questions related to solitude and togetherness in Alone Together.
