KU Leuven cordially invites you to attend a special documentary sneak preview. Will Europe control its own fate on electric vehicles (EVs)? On 13 November, KU Leuven will host a screening of the documentary Made in Europe: From mine to electric vehicle with a panel discussion to follow. The future of European decarbonisation and cleantech-based reindustrialisation efforts hinges on the minerals going into EVs, wind turbines… KU Leuven’s own Peter Tom Jones, Director of the KU Leuven Institute of Sustainable Metals and Minerals (SIM²), delves into the Nordic mines, refineries and battery plants that will determine EV self-sufficiency in the 21st century. Jones also has an extraordinary meeting with a key spokesperson of the indigenous, reindeer-herding Sami people in their homeland, “Sapmi”. The film will be introduced by Rector Luc Sels, and Jones and Julia Poliscanova of Transport & Environment will appear on a panel after the screening to discuss the film and the EV battery supply chain, with a reception to follow. |
