Researcher on advanced photonic circuits and deputy project manager for PHORMIC (one year contract)

What you will do

Imec is the coordinator of the European project PHORMIC (www.phormic.eu) which is building a next-generation silicon photonics platform enhanced with MEMS and transfer-printed light sources. The project wants to enable large-scale programmable photonic circuits for a diverse range of applications. The project has 10 partners.

  • You will be part of the team at the Photonics Research Group, with responsibilities in;
  • The design and simulation of novel silicon photonic devices based on MEMS or liquid crystals, and of circuits composed of such devices (either designed in-house or in collaboration with our project partners)
  • Characterization and testing of those devices and circuits.
  • Leading the PHORMIC workpackage on Photonic Circuits.
  • Handling some of the project coordination and reporting tasks, in close collaboration with the project coordinator.
  • Publishing relevant research results in journals and conferences, and representing the PHORMIC project.

Who you are

  • You have a PhD in Photonics, Communications, Applied Physics or Electrical Engineering
  • You have experience with photonic integrated circuits: modelling, design, fabrication and/or measurement.
  • You have at least some basic programming skills (python).
  • You are familiar with Microsoft office apps, in particular with joint editing of documents.
  • Experience with the management of research projects or participation in European projects is a plus.
  • You are fluent in English (The local language is Dutch, but all professional communication is in English).
