R&D Inspection Engineer for 3D IC integration

As R&D Inspection Engineer for 3D IC integration, you will develop advanced metrology to address 3DIC scaling roadmap challenges.

What you will do

You will be part of the metrology and inspection (M&I) group within the Advanced Patterning department. As R&D Inspection Engineer for 3D IC integration, you will:

  • Work in close collaboration with 3DIC / Advanced Wafer Level Packaging program and integration teams
  • Identify metrology/inspection challenges and imec capability gaps linked to the 3DIC scaling roadmap. This includes mostly defectivity inspections but may include other metrology challenges like Critical Dimension (CD) metrology, overlay metrology but also edge roll-off, die tilt, wafer warpage etc...
  • Be the IMEC contact person for a tool, providing training and knowledge transfer to IMEC personnel.
  • Create advanced recipes on the tool for internal customers
  • Own and drive a JDP with a major metrology supplier for 3D IC.
  • Investigate the limits of the techniques you work with through fundamental understanding by literature search, simulations, physical modeling etc...
  • Eventually run external demos and propose innovative solutions when existing techniques do not solve identified gaps
  • Report your work internally and externally (project reviews, workshops, conferences or journal papers).

Who you are

  • You have a PhD in Applied Sciences, Material Engineering or Electronics or a master degree with equivalent number of years of experience in the industry or an R&D institute
  • You are proactive, positive, hands-on with willingness to learn
  • You have interest, or experience, in metrology and/or inspection in a high tech cleanroom
  • You are able to work in complex environments with various partners and customers
  • You are flexible and able to deal with change or ambiguity
  • You work accurately and have attention to details
  • You have excellent English communication skills
  • You have excellent presentation skills.
