What you will do

Imec is in the top 3 of Belgium companies filing European patent applications. Our Patent team manages a patent portfolio of about 4000 patents and patent applications.
To strengthen our team, we are currently looking for a Patent Information Officer for our headquarters in Leuven, Belgium.

To orientate our research activities and to optimally protect the obtained innovations, we need to assess what is publicly known in the technical fields of interest.
As a Patent Information Officer, you search for this public information using specialized web-based databases. Requests for search are handled by you in collaboration with the patent portfolio manager involved. These requests include patentability searches, patent landscape studies and assessments of the patent portfolios of other companies. You discuss the outcome of your searches with the patent portfolio manager, researchers and/or managers.

In order to do so,

  • you define the scope of the search request together with the patent portfolio manager, researchers and/or management. Then, you develop and apply your search strategy to retrieve the most relevant information. You report the analysis of this information in a concise manner. If needed, you can call on providers of patent search services.
  • you train imec employees in searching for relevant information in patent and scientific literature databases.
  • you follow the latest developments in search tools and strategies, you keep your expertise up to date.

Who you are

  • You want to use your physics, electronics or electrical engineering background and learn all the secrets of the patent landscape.
  • Being familiar with semiconductor process technology and devices is a plus.
  • You have a broad interest in technology.
  • You combine this with good analytical skills.
  • You work accurately and in a structured way.
  • You are an enthusiastic team player but can work independently and take initiative.
  • You have good communication skills, both orally and written.
  • You have a thorough knowledge of English. Knowledge of Dutch is considered a plus.
  • You are willing to follow an extensive training to develop your search skills.
