PRISMAP: Educational developer on novel radioisotopes for nuclear medicine (ref. BAP-2022-812)

This position will be embedded within the Interdisciplinary Research Group (IOG) of the Institute for Nuclear and Radiation Physics, Department of Physics and Astronomy, Faculty of Science, Group Science & Technology. The IOG is led by Prof Thomas Elias Cocolios and consists in a team of 1 post-doc, 8 PhD students, and 4 Master students performing research on and with radioactive ion beams. The group has two major research lines: the production and purification of radioisotopes for medical applications and the study of ground-state properties of radioisotopes for nuclear structure investigations. This position would be directly linked with the medical applications of the research team.

The position is furthermore part of PRISMAP – The European medical isotope programme. This Horizon 2020 project is a consortium of 23 academic and research partners, led by CERN and featuring many research centers (e.g. SCK CEN in Mol) and university hospital (e.g. Gasthuisberg) to support the research into novel medical radioisotopes.

Educational developers within the KU Leuven Faculty of Science also work closely together and in partnership with the Tutorial Services, Educational Development & Quality Care division of the Faculty, under the leadership of Dr Carolien Van Soom, strong with a team of over 20 persons.Website unit

As educational developer within PRISMAP, you shall interact with all the members of the consortium to gain an overview of the existing teaching material on the production and purification of radioisotopes and the entire delivery chain to nuclear medicine, in order to gather the existing material towards distilling a compilation of the reference material in that field.
You will additionally join the PRISMAP Training Office within which you will coordinate the PhD Charter, joining PhD students across multiple institutions into a single multidisciplinary network. This Charter should be promoted to multiple higher-education institutions to gain support by doctoral schools, through which PhD students within the PRISMAP network and beyond could obtain recognition for their training. The Training Office will also organize a series of 6 schools and many training workshops for which you will be able to contribute to the organization.
Finally, you will assist with the production of educational material by other PRISMAP partners, such as educational videos, and a MOOC on nuclear medicine to be designed by ARRONAX and Subatech Nantes (France).

We are looking for a well-organized person with good communication skills to interact with a broad network of European partners. Interest in nuclear medicine and basic scientific understanding is an essential quality. A Master degree is required; candidates with a PhD are welcome to apply too. The working language of the PRISMAP consortium is English.

We offer a part-time position (20 %) over 12 months with possible extension, within the Department of Physics & Astronomy. This position gives the possibility to interact with the dynamic team of educational developers within the Faculty of Science, as well as with a broad European network spanning from Portugal to Latvia!
