Finance & InvestmentCapricorn Partners - an independent manager of private and quoted equity funds - is expanding its investment team in Leuven (Belgium) with an Investment Manager/Director for its Capricorn Fusion China Fund.
The Capricorn Fusion China Fund aims to deploy smart capital for successful companies wishing to scale up their European business in China. Vice versa, the fund also can invest in successful Chinese companies scaling up their business in Europe.
The fund plans to invest in around 10 companies with established transcontinental growth plans. The dedicated investment team endeavours to positively contribute to the achievement of these ambitions by enhancing market access, providing equity capital, and deploying support.
The fund is operational, has over €30 million in committed capital, and targets minority investments varying from € 1 to € 5 million as lead investor or as part of a larger consortium.
As an Investment Manager/Director you will help to build and enlarge a portfolio of companies recognized for their excellent team, scalable technology, breakthrough potential, international ambitions, and potential for superior financial return.
Job description
o Originate investment opportunities within the investment scope of the Capricorn Fusion China Fund
through active prospection in Europe and Asia.
o Develop active prospection and creative commercial strategies.
o Evaluate and analyse investment opportunities.
o Structure and negotiate terms and conditions of such investment opportunities.
o Lead and manage due diligence missions.
o Prepare and present Investment Recommendations to the Investment Committee.
o Organize the preparation of legal documents, in coordination with internal and external legal counsels.
o Support portfolio companies through board or observer seats.
o Continuously engage with a network of entrepreneurs, co-investors, financial institutions, business consultants and other relevant parties to build relationships, exchange information, promote Capricorn Partners and its funds and facilitate prospecting. Help build external recognition ofCapricorn Partners and its funds to catalyse greater flow of investment opportunities
Core qualifications and requirements
o Preferred degrees in business economics, finance, science, or engineering.
o PhD or MBA is a plus but not a requirement.
o Experience in doing business in China or thorough knowledge of the Chinese market and its business dynamics.
o Several years relevant experience in an investment function at an investment fund, private equity fund, financial institution or corporate finance house or relevant professional investment experience
originating from e.g., corporate development or consulting (having done projects for relevant clients).
o Enthusiastic and curious about innovative technologies, new markets and entrepreneurship, positive attitude. An entrepreneurial experience in your career is a plus.
o Fluency in English is a must; fluency in an additional European language or notions of Mandarin
Chinese are a plus.
o Enthusiasm for, and willingness to travel extensively (when current restrictions allow) to develop strong and close relationships with key contacts in Europe and China.
o Enjoys working in a team and interacting with professionals from all levels and functions. Consensusdriven personality with proven leadership skills. Willingness to mentor junior staff and to share knowledge.
o Pro-active, entrepreneurial, result-oriented and with excellent networking, negotiating and communication skills (verbal and written).
o Ability to operate in a confidential manner, aware of any sensitivities around a potential transaction and maintaining the highest ethical and ESG standards.
