KU Leuven seeks to foster an environment where all talents can flourish, regardless of gender, age, cultural background, nationality or impairments. If you have any questions relating to accessibility or support, please contact us at diversiteit.HR@kuleuven.be.
There is a one-year vacancy for a postdoctoral researcher on the topic of "Applications of Artificial Intelligence" within the Dept. of Computer Science of KU Leuven university, location Campus De Nayer in Sint-Katelijne-Waver, Belgium.
You will be expected to support the ongoing research activities in the group. These activities are embedded within the research group Declarative Languages and Artificial Intelligence (https://dtai.cs.kuleuven.be), an internationally renowned group with a focus on logic-based and relational methods in Machine Learning and Knowledge Representation. At Campus De Nayer, we focus on applying these methods to industrially or societally relevant problems, often in collaboration with industrial partners. These activities are part of the multidisciplinary research group EAVISE (http://www.eavise.be).
In this group, there are several ongoing applied projects. You will be expected to contribute to these project, e.g., by mentoring the PhD students that work on them. In addition, you will also support the process of establishing new industrial collaborations and writing additional project proposals. Depending on your background and interests, this may be focused more on either the Knowledge Representation or the Machine Learning activities within the group. Most of our current activities have a strong Knowledge Representation component.
In addition to supporting the ongoing projects within the group, you will also have autonomy to work on your own research interests, possibly in collaboration with the other members of our group.
You will be expected to contribute to the Computer Science courses in the "Master in Engineering Technology: Electronics-ICT" programme. This may involve lectures and/or lab sessions. As a relatively small campus, we do not offer students a large variety of specialised courses, but focus on more general courses to provide a solid background. Consequently, you may be asked to teach an introductory course on a general topic such as software engineering or databases. We will decide your teaching duties together, based on your interests and background.
We are looking for a motivated researcher with a PhD in Computer Science, or similar. You have a background in Artificial Intelligence and have publications at respected AI conferences or in AI journals. You have an interest in doing applied AI research and are fluent in English.
We offer a position as postdoctoral researcher within one of Europe's leading research universities. You will work on Campus De Nayer of KU Leuven, a campus of about 800 students and 100 teaching staff / researchers, located near the city of Mechelen. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with an enthusiastic team of AI researchers, and to benefit from our network of industrial contacts.
The offer is for a position of one year. However, depending on your background, there may be opportunities to apply for funding for an additional period. We will provide all the necessary support for such an application.
