We are seeking an enthusiastic Scientific Project Manager to join the Genomics Core team. The Project Manager will be responsible for the successful management and implementation of the EASI-Genomics project, and will work closely with both the Coordinator of the Genomics Core, the manager, the GC team as well as the KU Leuven offices for research grants, technology transfer, financial management, and communication.

The Genomics Core is one of the largest Genome Sequencing Centers in Europe and the largest Sequencing Center in Belgium. It is integrated within the Department of Human Genetics at the KU Leuven. The Department of Human Genetics is embedded in the biomedical faculty of the KU Leuven and the University Hospital, Belgium’s largest hospital. The University of Leuven (KU Leuven) is one of the world’s top 50 universities, ranked 6th in Europe according to the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU). The University has over 1,000 staff active. It is a founding member of the League of European Research Universities and has a strong European and international orientation (www.kuleuven.be). The department hosts over 30 staff and over 300 researchers (PhDs and Postdocs). 

We are seeking an enthusiastic Scientific Project Manager to join the Genomics Core team. The position is within the framework of one project funded by the European Commission H2020 Program coined, “European Advanced infraStructure for Innovative Genomics ” (EASI-Genomics). EASI-Genomics aims at integrating a set of large Research Infrastructures providing advanced sequencing services and opening them to the European research community.
The Project Manager will be responsible for the successful management and implementation of the EASI-Genomics project, and will work closely with both the Coordinator of the Genomics Core, the manager, the GC team as well as the KU Leuven offices for research grants, technology transfer, financial management, and communication.

Responsibilities
  • Promoting collaborations and communication among the partners as well as with relevant initiatives, consortia, and other European projects.
  • Ensuring that reports, deliverables and milestones are completed in a timely fashion.
  • Managing the project to ensure compliance with EU deadlines and regulations.
  • Perform and coordinate wet lab techniques such as library preparation, QC and sequencing.
  • Co-organize automation.
  • Organizing project events, meetings, workshops, phone conferences, etc.
Profile

You hold a University degree in life sciences or related fields, preferably with a PhD degree.

Required experience and skills:

  • You have research experience in an international environment.
  • You have experience in project management.
  • Languages: You have excellent command of spoken and written English.
  • You have strong IT skills (e.g. Microsoft Office and you are eager to learn inhouse developed project management webtools).
  • You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • You are a good team player with the ability to work independently.
  • You are precise, with attention to details, and well-organized.
  • You are proactive, flexible, and problem-solving attitude.
  • Having bioinformatics/genomics experience is an asset.
Offer
  • Duration: full-time contract for 12 months, with possibility to extend it.
  • Estimated annual gross salary: A competitive salary will be provided (adjusted according to experience).
  • Starting date: as soon as possible after March 15th, 2019.
