There is an academic vacancy in the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, in the Research Group ‘Adapted Physical Activity and Psychomotor Rehabilitation’ at KU Leuven in the area of rehabilitation in mental health care for adults and elderly. We are looking for internationally oriented candidates with an excellent research record and with educational competence within the field of rehabilitation in mental health care in this target group.
The Research Group ‘Adapted Physical Activity and Psychomotor Rehabilitation’ is embedded within the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences of the Biomedical Sciences Group. In the past, this department has systematically been given a high ranking for research and education quality by independent accreditation committees. The department as well as the research group have an extensive national and international network in the academic world. The research group can build upon a solid research infrastructure and a supportive work environment within KU Leuven and the University Psychiatric Centre KU Leuven (UPC KU Leuven).
You develop a research programme complementary and synergistic to the current research programmes in the area of rehabilitation in mental health care for adults and elderly.
You strengthen existing research lines, you develop new research themes and you provide additional expertise. In this effort, you take the relevant key areas of the department into account.
More specifically, you have research experience in adults or elderly with psychiatric conditions in a residential or outpatient setting. You have experience in the health related approach of these patient groups (for example by means of physical activity) or cognitive-behavioral based programs, for example by using ‘m-health technology’.
You set up an international collaboration around your research programme.
You take an interdisciplinary approach and you are willing to collaborate with and provide your expertise to other departments and research groups within KU Leuven and UPC KU Leuven.
You strive for excellence in your research and in this manner provide a contribution to the continued development of the research group and the department.
You are capable of acquiring competitive funding and you have a concrete plan to realize this in the next years.
You publish at the highest scientific level and supervise PhDs at an international level.
You ensure high-quality education within the BSc and MSc programs of the Rehabilitation Sciences and Physical therapy (Dutch and English program) and in the International Master Program of Adapted Physical Activity. You teach in the domain of rehabilitation in mental health care in both adults and elderly and in the domain of communication skills, at the campus in Leuven and Bruges. You take a leading role in the internship of this area.
You have a clear commitment for the quality of the programme as a whole. You also contribute to the pedagogic project of the faculty/university through the supervision of master theses and as a promoter of PhD researchers.
You develop your teaching in accordance with KU Leuven's vision on activating and researched-based education and make use of the possibilities for the educationalist professionalization offered by the faculty and the university.
Scientific, social and internal services within the domain of rehabilitation of mental health care are also part of your job.
You are prepared to take up a coordinating role within the educational curriculum and the major in the domain of Rehabilitation in Mental Health Care and to engage you in management and policy within the department according to your academic degree.
You will provide clinical services as a physiotherapist/psychomotor therapist (10% to 20%) in the ‘Competence Centre Physiotherapy/Psychomotor Therapy’. In this effort, you are focused on the translation of the scientific research to the clinical practice. You support the academic development of this Competence Centre of UPC KU Leuven.
You provide advice and support for clinical and translational research projects in collaboration with the researchers and the PhD researchers of the various research groups within the department.
You have a PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences and Physiotherapy or in a related area enabling you to provide the expected educational courses. As you will provide clinical services in UPC KU Leuven, you possess of the sufficient clinical competences and accreditation.
You have a strong research profile in the field of study. The quality of your research is proven by publications in prominent and international journals. International experience and being actively involved in international networks are important advantages.
You have demonstrable qualities related to academic education. Teaching experience is an advantage.
You possess organizational skills, you have a cooperative attitude and you are focused on collaboration. You also possess leadership capacities within a university context.
The official administrative language used at KU Leuven is Dutch. If you do not speak Dutch (or do not speak it well) at the start of employment, KU Leuven will provide language training to enable you to take part in administrative meetings.
Before teaching courses in Dutch or English, you will be given the opportunity to learn Dutch resp. English to the required standard.
