Researcher on development of platform technology and testing of assays related to organ on chip program and cellular/tissue technology

What you will do

You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team that works towards the development of novel microchip solutions for imec’s organ-on-chip platforms. You will aid the chip platform development, and you will manage large international research projects with our private and academic partners. Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Develop novel assays for interfacing with cells and tissues using silicon chips
  • Drive development of technology platforms across interdisciplinary teams
  • Manage private and public funded projects within international networks
  • Report and present results to internal and external stakeholders
  • Contribute to imec’s Life Sciences roadmap by giving input as technical expert

Who you are

We are looking for a strong, independent, research-minded profile that can help us deepen the knowledge in interfacing cells and tissues with electronics.

  • You are organized and accurate in collecting and storing data. You have proven to be a good communicator and team player, and you thrive in multi-cultural environments.
  • You have a PhD degree in physics, bio-physics, bio-engineering, electrical engineering, or other related discipline.
  • You have hands-on experience with customized instrumentation for characterization of cells, tissues or other biological samples for organ-on-chip applications (e.g. optical systems, electronic recording systems, microfluidic systems)
  • You have hands-on experience with cell-based assays with relevant knowledge in cell biology, molecular biology or biochemistry
  • You have experience with microfabrication technology
  • You have experience in analyzing and interpreting large and complex datasets and are proficient in one or more relevant software tools such as Matlab, R, ImageJ, Python, or other equivalent packages
  • Experience in microelectrode array measurements is a plus
  • You take initiative and work independently, while being part of a team
  • You can guide and motivate team members in their work
  • You can plan the work of a team according to deadlines and deliverables
  • You are creative and like to think with the team to solve problems
  • You are result-driven and can meet stringent deadlines with quality output
