The Flanders-China Chamber of Commerce and KBC Group, are pleased to invite you to an in-person event which will take place on December 10, 2024 at 17h00 at KBC Leuven, Brusselsesteenweg 100, 3000 Leuven.

Our distinguished speaker, Mr. Hans Dewachter, Chief Economist, KBC Group, will deliver a speech focusing on "China's stimulus pivot: policy panacea or just another sugar high?"

After months of disappointing and slowing growth, policymakers in China have finally introduced a package of monetary and fiscal policy measures intended shore up the real economy, markets, and the financial sector. But not all economic policy is created equal, and the headwinds weighing on the Chinese economy are both structural and cyclical in nature. This suggests that turning the tide in China requires a policy pivot that addresses long-standing structural issues and imbalances in order to boost private sector confidence and consumption.

This talk will discuss those structural issues and whether the recently announced stimulus is up to the task or if it's just 'more of the same'.

The programme is as follows:

17:00-17:30: Registration
