Resiterra starts construction of new health-oriented district in the center of Leuven

22 February 2018

Construction has started on the Hertogensite, one of the largest inner city developments in recent years. Project developer and Leuven MindGate member Resiterra will construct 540 residential homes as well as Flanders' first 'welfare tower' over the coming eight years.

The site measures no less than 6,5 acres and is situated between the Brusselsestraat, Minderbroedersstraat and Kapucijnenvoer. Next to residential homes, a performing arts centre and commercial spaces, an existing building on the site will be converted into a 'welfare tower' at the start of next year. This will be a one-stop-shop in care and well-being with a specific focus on chronically ill citizens, mostly the elderly.

To increase the life quality, the entire site will be devoid of cars and the center will be converted into a one hectare sized park. "We want to offer locations in the city where it's nice to live for both the young and elderly, locations where people are free to move around without having to worry about traffic", Erik Van Hoof, Managing Director of Resiterra mentions.
