19 June 2019

In this year’s QS World University Rankings, KU Leuven ranks 80th and remains the highest-ranked Belgian university in this list. Compared with last year, KU Leuven has risen one place. KU Leuven scores particularly well for the indicators ‘citations per faculty’ and ‘academic reputation’.

The QS World University Rankings have been published every year since 2004. The ranking is compiled on the basis of several indicators:

  • academic reputation (which counts towards 40% of the total score), based on survey responses from over 94,000 academics;
  • employer reputation (10%), based on survey responses from over 44,000 employers about the relationship between the institution and graduate employability;
  • citations per faculty (20%);
  • the faculty/student ratio (20%);
  • international faculty ratio (5%) and international student ratio (5%).

“It fills me with pride that the work of our researchers and our solid academic reputation are recognised far beyond Belgian borders,” says Rector Luc Sels. “It also confirms that we’re on the right track with our Strategic Plan for KU Leuven.”
